Shiseido Cosmetics: A Tradition In Beauty

Despite the multitude of beauty brands that are available for personal consumption, one of the only brands that has been able to stand the test of time is Shiseido. Shiseido Makeup was founded in the late 1800’s by a pharmaceutical expert who was previously employed with the Japanese Imperial Army named Yushin Fukuhara. His establishment was considered the first pharmacy with Western-style attributes. The Shiseido philosophy is based off of the belief that inner and outer beauty must exist in harmony together, a statement that rings true for most beauty fanatics. Despite the line’s deeply rooted Japanese influence, the line was created to appeal to a diverse audience. Their fortes are skin care and make-up, and they have a plentiful amount of lines for both. Their first skin cream, Eudermine, was released in 1897 to combat lead poisoning, and is still being sold in outlets around the world today. Not only did Shiseido create the first version of Japanese toothpaste, but they also introduced Japan to flesh-colored powder and skin correction serums, to replace the white, lead-based powder that most Japanese women used at the time. Eudermine aided Shiseido in creating more and more cosmetics. Their make-up line, simply titled, “The Make-Up”, has received various nods from a congregation of publications. In recent months, Allure magazine oooh’d and ahhh’d over Shiseido’s Make Up Luminizing Satin Eye Color, Perfect Rouge, Hydropowder Eyeshadow, and Accentuating Cream Eyeliner. Besides these products, Shiseido also creates lip products, various eye embellishments, fragrances, blushes, and foundations.

Shiseido Cosmetic make up has several distinct skin care lines that cater to individual complexions and ages. Their “Pureness” line, which debuted in 1995, is meant for the beauty of youth, with many products that are oil-free, or help to rid the complexion of unnecessary oils. Their generic line, entitled “Skincare”, is typically used for maintaining a healthy balance in your particular complexion. For those who wish to reduce pronounced lines and dark under-eye circles, they should try the “Bioperformance” line. Their most recent addition is the “White Lucent” line, which is for skin that has been blemished with sun damage. Shiseido makeup also offers a “Shiseido Men” line, for the more beauty-conscious male.
